Ikwunze Counsels Equavoen, Others On Eagles Job

Former Abia State Director of Sports, Ejikeme Ikwunze, has charged the new interim Technical adviser of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen and his entire technical crew, to eschew favoritism and embrace unity in capacity as they mount the saddle to lead the senior national team.

Ikwunze, who was reacting to the sacking of Gernot Rohr by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Sunday evening, described the development as “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” adding that the German tactician’s best was not enough for Nigeria.

‘Mr. Football,’ as he’s fondly called, said that Rohr’s tenure in the national team was characterised by loopholes in his team selections and substitutions as well as his utter disrespect for Nigerian League.

He urged the NFF to give adequate and timely logistics support to the Eguavoen coaching crew by ensuring that everything is done professionally.

“The consortium of coaches we now have must show unity in capacity and unity in diversity to ensure they turn around the dwindling fortunes of the Super Eagles for the better.

“They should eschew favouritism and players must be invited on merit and irrespective of where that player is plying his trade. The new technical crew must panel beat a team that will fall into the likely to win and difficult to defeat category; A team with character and pedigree,” he said.
