Juve To Rival Barca For Cavani

Juventus have reportedly joined fellow European heavyweights Barcelona in the battle to sign Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani in January.

Cavani’s contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer, and a mixture of fitness issues and competition for places has limited the amount of first-team football he has been able to play so far this season.

The 34-year-old has started just two Premier League games and made five top-flight appearances in total in 2021-22, leading to speculation that Man United could look to cash in on him when the transfer window reopens next month.

Barcelona are understood to be leading the race for his signature, particularly with Sergio Aguero expected to announce his retirement from football this week, with Cavani undeterred by the Spanish outfit’s failure to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.

However, Marca reports that Juventus have now also joined the race for his signature in an attempt to turn their ailing season around.

The Serie A side’s preferred option is thought to be signing Mauro Icardi on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, but they have identified Cavani as a back-up option if that does not prove possible.

The report also claimed that Cavani would be open to joining Brazilian outfit Corinthians, a switch his agent recently hinted could be possible.
