Lagos 2022 African Fencing: Team Nigeria Make Fair Start

 


Team Nigeria’s Kiishi Olayemi placed sixth in the women’s foil event at the opening day of the  Cadet and Junior African Fencing Championship holding at the Festival Hotel, Festac, Lagos.

Olayemi qualified as the third best fencer from Pool 2 as Egyptian Jana Ehab came top edging her compatriot Malek Hamza while Algeria’s Malek Tantast placed third. Ogechi Okpara and Anino Mabuyaku were the two other Nigerians that featured in the category finishing below South Africa’s Bernie Beukes.

In the Men’s Épée, Nigeria’s Fejiro

Agbro qualified to the first round with Egyptian Mahmoud El Sayed finishing as best qualifier ahead of South Africa’s Peter Kruger. with Ahmed Hussein Egypt and

Houssam Berkane of Algeria.

In the first round of the Men’s sabre, Egypt claimed the top three positions with Ahmed Sedawy leading Yaasin Khodir and Fares Basem.

About 150 fencers are taking part in the championship which will end on Sunday.

Aside hosts Nigeria, other countries Egypt, South Africa, Algeria, Libya, Senegal, Benin and Angola are featuring in the event.
