The free two-days coaches program targeted both grassroots development and elite coaches, laying emphasis on the psychology of coaching, fundamentals of basketball and coaching ethics, took place at the Samuel Kayan Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, Monrovia, Liberia.
“We hope to continue to expand the capacity development coaches workshop to more countries in the coming months and years as we strengthen the development and discovery of talents with our summer camps and basketball courts donations,” said lead facilitator and Giants of Africa Western and Northern Africa coordinator, Michael Akuboh.
The Deputy Minister, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Honorable Peter Bemah graced the clinic on the opening day of the training, representatives from the Liberia Basketball Association were also present and Hotcoal Basketball, Nigeria also served as partners of the workshop. This strategic partnerships ensured the best coaches in Liberia benefited from the wealth of experience of coach Michael Akuboh, received certificates of participation, welfare and GOA memorabilia for attending the first Giants of Africa capacity building workshop and clinic for coaches in the West African country.
The Giants of Africa coaches workshop is part of the many impact programs the Giants of Africa organization who in September 2021, announced a multi-year, 100-court investment in the infrastructure of basketball throughout Africa under the organization’s “Built Within” initiative, and as so far built new and refurbished basketball courts across Tanzania, Nigeria, Kenya, Burkina Faso and Ivory coast.
