Cavani Dey For Barca, Real And Atletico Radar

Manchester United forward, Edinson Cavani, will become a free agent at the end of the season and could move to La Liga in the summer, reports The Sun.

The 35-year-old Uruguayan joined Manchester United in the summer of 2020 on a free transfer and enjoyed a productive debut season in England. He finished the campaign with 17 goals, compelling the Red Devils to hand him an extension for another year.

However, the return of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer has had a debilitating effect on his game-time at Old Trafford. At the same time, Cavani has struggled with some niggling injury issues as well, restricting him to just 11 Premier League appearances this term, in which he has two goals.

As things stand, it does not look like the former Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli star would get a renewal at Manchester United. And the report states that the striker would be open to testing himself in La Liga, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid presented as potential destinations for him.

Barça had been heavily linked with Cavani during the January window. And even though the primary target for the summer remains Erling Haaland, a striker of the Uruguayan’s proven pedigree and experience can be a good influence on the rest of the squad.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, is putting all their eggs in the Kylian Mbappe basket. However, with backup strikers Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic expected to leave, adding another proven goalscorer like Cavani on the bench is something they are exploring.

As for Atletico Madrid, they will need to replace ex-Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez, whose contract expires in the summer. Diego Simeone is a long-term admirer of Cavani and wants him at the Wanda Metropolitano, with his potential free-agent status appealing to Atleti.

Cavani proved last season that if given regular minutes he could still deliver the goods in front of goal. And he can be more than a handy backup option for any of the aforementioned clubs. Only time will tell who among the La Liga bigwigs clinch his signing on a Bosman move.
