Pep Done Send Message To Liverpool, Chelsea

Pep Guardiola has claimed the Premier League title race is far from over despite Manchester City establishing an eight point lead at the top of the table.

City’s 1-0 win at Brentford on Wednesday, coupled with Chelsea 1-1 draw at home to Brighton and Liverpool’s defeat at Leicester, has left Guardiola’s side with a sizeable advantage heading into the new year.

The Reds , who are currently third are nine points behind the leaders do have a game in hand.

Whilst their rivals have struggled for consistency of late, particularly over the gruelling festive period, City have found form at just the right time, winning their last 10 league games in succession.

However, Guardiola highlighted his side’s recent scare against Leicester on Boxing Day as evidence that nothing can be taken for granted in the race for the title.

“There are 54 points to play. Fifty-four,” he told Amazon Sport .

“We were 4-0 up [against Leicester] and in 20 minutes we were 4-3 three days ago. All of you, thank you for your nice words because we win but I’m not going to believe any of the words you’re going to say if you think it is already done.

“Chelsea and Liverpool are more than exceptional – one is the European champions and Liverpool have been our big rival for years.

“The difference is not because they dropped points but because we won 10 games in a row.”

City will to go 11 points clear at the top of the table if they beat Arsenal at the Emirates on January 1.

Chelsea host Liverpool the following day.
