Rivers United on Wednesday maintained their lead in the ongoing 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League season with a 3-1 victory against Mountain of Fire Ministry Football Club (MFM) at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The Pride of Rivers opened scoring courtesy Chijioke Akuneto 35th minutes strike after which Ishaq Kayode Rafiu doubled the lead few seconds to half time.
The Stanley Eguma side continued their impressive run with a third goal from Uche Onwuasoanya, while Tosin Olubolola gave the host a consolation goal a minute later.
The match day seven result saw the Church Boys settle for last on the log while visitor, Rivers United stayed top.
In Niger State, Shooting Stars Sports Club, who are currently 19th on the log, continued with their unimpressive run with a 2-0 loss to Niger Tornadoes while Sunshine Stars of Ondo defeated Gombe United by two goals to nil..
It was also a bad day for Dakkada FC who lost at home to Wikki Tourist, while Katsina United and Lobi Stars settled for goalless draw.
Today’s match day seven cracker will see Kwara United host Kano Pillars,just as Remo Stars welcome Abia Warriors.
