Ohanaeze Ndigbo To Honour Ex Eagles Stars

Lagos State wing of Igbo Socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo will today, honour various soccer ex-internationals and sports enthusiasts  who have made Nigeria proud in the world of sports.

The event, meant to celebrate the 2021 Igbo day, will see 1996 Olympic gold winning coach Jo Bonfrere alongside his tutored team being honoured at the Nigeria Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking ahead of today’s event, state president, Chief Solomon Ogbonna hinted that all hands are on deck to make the annual fiesta memorable.

“ We aim at honouring the 1996 set because it comprises of Igbo’s who have made the country proud. Aside the football team, the likes of Chioma Ajunwa and Mary Onyali also made us proud. The main reason behind this year’s event is to further cement the relationship between the Igbos and Yorubas.

“ Having said this, Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu will also be honoured for the massive support he has shown so far. Aside that, my group will also honour late Adekunle Fajuyi who supported the Igbos with his last breath.

“ I urge all Igbos to come out en mass for this year’s edition because we’ve gone the extra mile to invite one of the tribe’s most prestigious masquerade. It will be fun with the entertaining support of several Nollywood stars like Osita Iheme [Paw Paw], Chinedu Ikedieze [Aki], and a host of others,” he stated.
