Dumont With Dominant Victory Over Ladd

Norma Dumont enjoyed a dominant victory over Aspen Ladd in the main event of a UFC Fight Night held at the UFC APEX Facility in Las Vegas on Sunday morning.

The win, which came via unanimous decision after five full rounds, sees Dumont rack up a third successive triumph and move to 7-1 in her professional career.

Ladd, who stepped in to replace Holly Holm (who herself had taken the place of Miesha Tate) moves to 9-2, with two defeats in her last three visits to the Octagon.

Dumont bossed the fight almost from start to finish, using her jab to great effect, as well as having a neutralising clinch and airtight takedown defence, ensuring that she built an insurmountable lead against the featherweight debutant.

Ladd enjoyed modest success in the fifth round – she bloodied the Brazilian’s nose with a few standing elbows – but failed to make up any significant ground and ultimately fell to defeat.

“We know her strength is ground and pound," Dumont said after the fight. "I said many times, in order for you to take me down, it's going to take a lot.”

The victor added, "I know she took the fight on short notice, but I want to tell her she's a 145-er... She has all the strength to keep fighting at 145."

The co-main event saw veteran Andrei Arlovski lean on his guile and skill to end a three-fight win streak for Carlos Felipe. The 43-year-old Arlovski built a strong lead in the first two rounds with kicks, sharp right hands and occasional combinations. Felipe came back strong in the third and final round, but the former UFC champ was able to keep his younger opponent at a distance and see out a points triumph.

The main card opened with Nate Landwehr defeating L’udovit Klein thanks to an anaconda submission choke in a featherweight bout, before Manon Fiorot outpointed fellow women’s flyweight Mayra Bueno Silva, and the only knockout had Jim Miller putting down Erick Gonzalez in round two of their middleweight match.

The next UFC event is a Fight Night at the APEX Facility in Las Vegas on the evening of Saturday 23 October, headlined by a middleweight bout between Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori.
