Maritzburg To Battle For Survival Against AmaZulu

Maritzburg United will square off with AmaZulu FC in the Dstv Premiership match at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 3pm CAT.

The Team of Choice are desperate for a win in order to avoid dropping into the relegation playoff spot after they suffered a 2-0 loss to SuperSport United away on Wednesday.

The KwaZulu-Natal-based side is placed 13th on the league standings - three points above the relegation play-off spot which is currently occupied by Chippa United.

Ernst Middedorp, the Maritzburg head coach, is hoping for an improved performance from his charges in their KwaZulu-Natal Derby clash against AmaZulu in their final game of the season.

"From my side, the commitment was not there, it was like a test game or friendly match. It is not what I want to see. It is something you don't wanna see," Middendorp said.

"It is not what you want to present in the PSL. I will work on it so that we finish well [in the final third] at the end of the season on Saturday. I want to see a different team. I want to see a different match."

Meanwhile, AmaZulu are looking to end a successful season with a win having qualified for the CAF Champions League for the first time after defeating Swallows FC 1-0 at home on Wednesday.

Usuthu secured a second spot finish with a win over Swallows and it also ended the team's two-match winless run having lost to Baroka and Orlando Pirates.

Benni McCarthy, the AmaZulu head coach, is ecstatic after guiding his side to a second-place finish and he will be keen to end the campaign with a victory in the KZN Derby encounter.

"We all deserve this and it’s not just me and the players and the team. But now we want to enjoy the moment, I know there’s one more game to go but we are there.

"We’ve achieved the unthinkable. When I joined the president said he wanted a top four finish people said he was crazy and when I joined people said I was overrated."
