William Ekong On The Brink Of Becoming A Premier League Player Following Watford’s Promotion

Nigeria international William Troost-Ekong is on the verge of playing in the English Premier League following Watford’s promotion back to the English top-flight at the first time of asking.

Xisco Munoz’s side will finish at least second in the English Championship, and that earns them a place in the next Premier League campaign.

The Vicarage Road outfit beat Millwall 1-0 on Saturday — thanks to Ismaila Sarr’s 11-minute penalty — to move ten points clear of third-placed Brentford.

With just two games left to play, it means The Hornets — who were relegated at the end of the 2019-20 season — have sealed a top-two finish and, of course, one of the automatic promotion spots.

Now five points behind leaders Norwich, Yellow Army have a mathematical chance of claiming the Championship title.

Relegated on the season’s final day, Watford were determined to return to the elite division. They recruited a number of players — including World Cup star William Troost-Ekong.

Ultimately, those signings have proved very useful.

Ekong, in particular, has been very important to the club where Ekong’s compatriots Isaac Success and Dele Bashiru also play for.

He made 32 appearances for the club, scoring once.

The Tottenham Hotspur Academy alumnus joined Watford last September on a five-year deal.

His move to the Championship club was not well received by many, particularly back in Nigeria.
