Chiefs Pass First Test Ahead Of Simba 'Final'

Kaizer Chiefs safely touched down at the Julius Nyerere International Airport in the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam at 5:30pm (4:30pm CAT, GMT+2) on Thursday afternoon.

Upon arrival in the east African country, the travelling contingent was required to undergo a rapid Covid-19 test in order for them to be able to enter the country. Everyone received a negative result and were all able to swiftly move to their hotel.

After the tests and passport checks, Amakhosi were welcomed by the South African High Commission in Tanzania at the airport.

Chiefs travelled with 23 players for the second leg of their CAF Champions League semifinal against Simba.

The travelling party will be required to undergo another test this evening at the hotel, which will give them access to enter the stadium and play the match.

The test will also be used to travel back to South Africa.

In addition to the designated CAF Covid-19 Officer, who is Dr Violet Lupondo of Tanzania, CAF announced on Thursday afternoon that they have added Dr Joseph Kabungo from Zambia to oversee the PCR testing processes.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football also announced that they have granted Simba SC permission to play Saturday’s match in front of 10 000 fans at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Chiefs last played in front of spectators in March 2020 and the experience will motivate them.

The match will kick off at 4pm (3pm CAT, GMT+2) on Saturday.
